Why Use Molded Paper Pulp Packaging to Replace EPS Package
With the progress and development of society, human beings are facing 2 major problems: environment and resources, and product packaging is closely related to this. Plastic products have become the main popular packaging materials due to their good performance, such as the widely used EPS lining packaging materials and food containers such as fast food boxes. However, due to its poor degradability, its waste will not rot for hundreds of years in the natural environment; if it is landfilled, it will occupy a lot of space and land due to its large volume; if it is incinerated, it will require expensive special incinerators and produce toxic gases during incineration; with the current recycling and reuse technology, its recycling cost is very high; therefore, due to the long-term use of EPS products, the human living environment has faced serious “white pollution.”

Therefore, actively researching and developing environmentally friendly alternatives has become a top priority to solve and control “white pollution”. Molded Paper Pulp Packaging (PMP) is known as a “green packaging” product that does not pollute the environment, and is quickly accepted by the market due to its good performance, especially its environmentally friendly characteristics – easily degraded in the natural environment.
Molded Paper Pulp Packaging Performance Advantages

Because pulp-molded products have sufficient raw material sources, pollution-free production and use processes, wide application range, low cost, light weight, high strength, good plasticity, cushioning, interchangeability, spring loading performance, and can be repeatedly used and recycled, they have strong vitality and broad application prospects. AGICO supplies pulp molding machines with various pulp mold dies for paper tray products.
The reason why pulp molding products are developing rapidly and have good prospects is that they have the following unique performance advantages:
- The pulp molding process technology is simple and practical, and there is no pollution during the production process, which meets the requirements of clean production. In addition, except for the high-quality requirements of personnel in the automatic control system management of each process of the Molded Paper Pulp Packaging production line, the rest are skilled techniques that can be mastered and used after a short period of training. In addition, the degree of localization of its equipment is very high, which is very conducive to the popularization and promotion of the project. This is also a convenient condition for quickly exerting the environmental advantages of pulp molding products.
- The raw materials are widely available. It mainly uses waste paper or annual herbaceous plant fiber pulp. The raw materials can be adapted to local conditions and can be obtained locally.
- The product has high strength, good plasticity and cushioning properties.
- Lightweight, low recycling cost, and can be reused repeatedly.
- Good protection, interchangeability and spring installation performance.
- From production and use to waste treatment, there is no pollution to the environment. The water consumption in the production process is small, there is no wastewater discharge to case environmental pollution.
- Good air permeability, which has unique advantages for the packaging of fresh products.
- Molded Paper Pulp Packagings have good water absorption, hydrophobicity and heat insulation. If special additives are added during the production process, they also have special properties such as waterproof, oil-proof and high temperature resistance.
Molded Paper Pulp Packaging For Cushioning And Shockproof
Pulp molded products for cushioning and shockproof packaging (hereinafter referred to as PMP) are made of waste newspapers, waste carton paper, scraps from paper mills or printing plants, etc., which are mixed into a pulp of a certain concentration through hydraulic pulping machine, batching and other processes. The pulp is vacuum-adsorbed on a special pulp mold die to form a wet blank product through pulp molding machine. The formed wet blank is then dried and hot-pressed to form a shape.

There is no waste water or waste gas discharged during the production process of PMP, and the water seal is recycled during the production process. The main raw material used in production is waste paper, which is abundant and cheap. The main raw material is waste paper, which is abundant with low cost. It is a comprehensive development and utilization of waste. After PMP completes its mission of buffering and shockproofing the packaging during the storage, transportation, sales and other commodity circulation processes, its waste can be recycled like ordinary paper, and even if it is abandoned in the natural environment, it is easy to rot and decompose into plant fibers like ordinary paper.
Which One to Choose – PMP or EPS
The cushioning and shockproof protection of PMP for the packaged objects is achieved through the elasticity of the fiber itself and its carefully designed cavity geometry. A large number of practical applications and tests have shown that the protection of PMP for the packaged objects is sufficient to replace EPS. PMP is an ideal environmentally friendly substitute for EPS. Compared with EPS products, PMP has the following characteristics:
- The raw material of PMP is waste paper, which is easy to recycle and will not pollute the environment, which will be beneficial to the export of manufacturers’ products; the raw material of EPS is petroleum by-products, which are difficult to degrade and have low recycling value, causing serious “white pollution” to the environment.
- PMP has a wide range of applications. With the advancement of paper mold technology, most small and medium-sized industrial products that currently use foam as lining packaging can be replaced by PMP.
- PMP can be stacked for storage, which reduces the storage space occupied by 1/2 to 2/5 compared with EPS products, and can greatly reduce transportation and storage costs.
- Anti-static: EPS easily generates static electricity due to friction, while PMP is not easy to generate static electricity, which provides better protection for electronic products and home appliances, especially electronic components.
- Anti-corrosion performance: Food (such as fruits, etc.) will release moisture during storage. If it is packaged in plastic products, the moisture cannot evaporate, which can easily cause the food to mold and rot. Paper products have good air permeability, so the moisture can evaporate, thus achieving an anti-corrosion effect.
- Shockproof performance: The shockproof and impactproof performance of PMP is comparable to that of EPS products. The protective function of EPS products on packaging is determined by the cushioning performance of its materials, while the cushioning performance of PMP is formed by the combination of its geometric cavity structure and the elasticity of the material itself, achieving good protection for packaging.
- Low cost: The cost of raw materials for producing PMP is much lower than that of raw materials for EPS products, and the production cost is also lower than EPS.
PMP uses waste paper as the main raw material and is a comprehensive development and utilization of waste. Its production process is closed-loop, with no wastewater or waste gas discharge, and it is low-cost, has good shockproof performance, and is widely used. After the service life of PMP is completed, it is easy to recycle and reuse like ordinary paper. Therefore, this project is in full compliance with the relevant national environmental protection policies and has been included in the national “15th Five-Year Plan” key development projects for new environmentally friendly packaging materials.
